Honour and Sacrifice: A Rememberance Day Blog

Hey,

We had a beautiful weekend on Vancouver Island, one that I am supremely grateful for. It’s easy to feel entitled to amazing weather and gorgeous weekends, and honestly? You probably do deserve it. That doesn’t change the fact that every cozy autumn afternoon, every stroll through red-and-yellow leaves, and every quiet moment with your family is a gift, one with an unthinkable price tag, bought and paid for by the generations that preceded us.

Over 110,000 Canadians died across two World Wars. That number is already unthinkable, but it reaches its true, horrifying potential when you consider how much damage it caused to the families. Countless children were orphaned, lovers were abandoned and parents buried their children. It affected everyone, an entire nation mourning together for their heroes, young men and women who gave everything they had to give for people they’d never meet. Friends they’d never know. Children they’d never have.

So, with a record-breaking ZERO JOKES, I present this week’s solemn Fun Finder Blog, and I do hope you enjoy reading as much as I enjoyed writing it.

There were some great events this weekend. I spent Sunday morning at the cenotaph in Veterans Memorial Park, there was an absolutely beautiful wreath-laying there, but I also made sure to swing by Parliament in the afternoon. I was also part of a wonderful Welcome Wagon that cheered up a new Ocean listener on Friday. Cheryl came to Victoria with $1.39 in her pocket to meet a man who wanted nothing to do with her once she was off the ferry. We showed up with over $300 worth of gift cards and prizes from some of our best sponsors to make sure Cheryl felt welcome in our beautiful city! I also had a fantastic time at the 41st Annual Creative Craft Fair and the Vintage Holiday Fair! Lots of neat Christmas pick-ups to make me appropriately festive!

Thanks for reading, and, as always, an enormous #OceanFamily thanks to Cupcakes at UptownMoxie’s Grill and Bar, Monk OfficeWestshore Town Centre and Campus Nissan!
